Over six weeks the Tuesday Supper Club hosted at Llanwarne Village Hall supported residents by providing free food and community. The club was started by Green Party councillor Toni Fagan to help residents through the increasing cost of living, isolation and loneliness. The supper club was a collaboration between the village hall; local organic farmer Jeremy Helme; school meal caterer’s, Naturally Nutritious; Growing Local volunteer, Juliet Ablett; and funded by the Household Support Fund through Talk Community’s Winter of Wellbeing project.
Toni said:
“The cost of living is getting more expensive by the day and many people have told me how easy it is to experience isolation and loneliness in our rural communities, which can be particularly hidden. The Tuesday Supper Club provided a lifeline for many people in need of community and tasty food.”
Toni added:
“People have also been able to access other services while at the club such as support for carers, advice on mental health and take home seeds to grow at home.”
Although this project has now come to an end, those involved have been inspired to find other opportunities to work together to support the rural community and continue the good work that began with the Tuesday Supper Club.
