20 to 27 November – Herefordshire Mind@40 Expo

Week of Mental Health events – Mind@40 at St Peter’s Church Hereford

For a week (20-27 November), St Peter’s Church in High Town Hereford will become the temporary home of Herefordshire Mind.  To celebrate Mind’s 40th anniversary, Expo Mind@40 promises a wide range of activities, exhibits and talks for anyone interested in mental wellbeing.  This Expo follows the success of Art From The Dark Exhibition last year in Hereford Library and Museum.

Talks with guest speakers include Sleep (Thursday 22nd November 1pm); Understanding Self-Harm (Monday 26th November 2pm); the History of Mental Health Support in Herefordshire including Rhys Griffiths from HARC on the History of St Mary’s Burghill (Tuesday 27th November 1pm);  a Creativity and Happiness afternoon (Saturday 24th November 12-4pm) for anyone aged 0-99 years; a Poetry Workshop and Showcase (Wednesday 21st November 12-2pm) in collaboration with Ledbury Poetry Festival; and an overall discussion with leading local organisations about the Future of Mental Health in our county (Friday 23rd November 1.30pm). All these talks are free, but it is helpful if you could get tickets from Hereford Library or through Eventbrite, or from St Peter’s Church during the week.

Most mornings there are drop-in sessions – Art (Tuesday 20th and 27th November 10.45am-12.45pm and Thursday 22nd November 10am-12), Reading (Thursday 22nd November 11am-1pm) or Active Minds Fitness (Friday 23rd November 10.30-11.15am).

Exhibition displays cover past and present Mind activities, including projects with joint collaborators such as the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, the Music Pool, Herefordshire Council Adult Learning, Herefordshire Library, Ledbury Poetry Festival, Hereford College of Arts, and SHYPP.  It will be open most of the week for visitors to drop in and enjoy.  Tea and coffee will also be available.

Mind hopes that anyone interested in learning something new about mental wellbeing, for themselves, their family or friends, for study or work, for kids and adults, will be very welcome, as well as past staff, volunteers, users to enjoy any of these events, or just to say hello and have a cup of tea.
